The workshop schedule for the 2010
festival is complete, instructors confirmed.
This year, we've added many things: a 'from
scratch' fiddle, bass and banjo sessions for
people who have never played the instruments
before, a mentored jam for folks who are new to
playing with others, an intermediate fiddling,
guitar, and bass workshop along with an
advancing guitar, banjo, mandolin, lap dulcimer,
hammered dulcimer and advanced fiddle
repertoire. Completely new to the festival,
we've added a flat-footing session.
These additions are on top of last
year's fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, string
jam and vocal sessions. Also new this year: an
instrument builder's panel discussion during the
lunch hour. Builders with experience with
fiddles, banjos and guitars will talk about wood
selection, the process and tools of building,
the joy and frustration, the elation when you
hear the first sounds from the instrument, the
differences between and OK, good and excellent
instrument AND how to care for your instrument
so it lasts more than a lifetime.
Like
last year, children 12 and under can attend
everything for free. Folks who come to jam, but
don't want to participate in workshops will be
asked for a small donation to help fund this
very cool event. Admission for adults who attend
all day, workshops AND the evening concert, will
be $25 if tickets are purchased in advance.
Admission for the workshops only, when purchased
in advance, will be $20. Tickets for just the
evening concert will be $10 (either in advance
or at the gate). Advance tickets are available
right NOW at Meadowood Music if you buy them
with cash.

September 25th -
8pm Ellis with
Brittany Ann
Tranbaugh
Ellis is a
rising star in the independent music scene. With
music that is described as "joyful, unpretentious
modern folk", Ellis continues to build attention
at venues and festivals throughout the country
with heart-felt songs that reflect her sincere
graciousness, vibrant nature, and contagious sense
of humor. You'll quickly be drawn in by her warmth
and real-life journeys as reflected in her songs.
"Ellis walks on
stage, flashes a bashful grin and does what she
does best: singing her heart out every single
time." Dale
Schiff, Just Out
(Portland)
"Ellis has been compared with Ani
DiFranco, Suzanne Vega, Edie Brickell, and the
Indigo Girls, but those comparisons only
approximate wha she’s all about. She is funny and
smart and has a way with lyrics that makes critics
take notice."

October 23 - 8pm The Nields with
Karen Anne Litecky
Nerissa and Katryna Nields have been the
darlings of the coffeehouse/festival scene since
1991, with tunes ranging from off-the-hook
idiosyncratic to kicking to heartbreaking.
SISTER HOLLER,
the newest and 14th career release from Nerissa
and Katryna Nields, is a "roots album," but with a
difference. Rather than simply reinterpret or
re-record the music what brung 'em, the sisters
from Western Massachusetts, have decided in
Sister Holler to retool, assimilate and
flat out burgle the music they grew up with to
create something new. They tell the listener right
up front that they're even going to lift entire
lines from some of the best songs ever written,
and then they do it, right before your very ears.
The result is a delightful oxymoron of songs
simultaneously familiar and surprising.
And
when the listener is thus invited and engaged,
something happens, and for a moment, the
coffeehouse, the church basement, the folk
festival - or just the space between the ears of a
listener wearing headphones with Sister
Holler on his CD player or iPod - is turned
into an Adirondack summer camp campfire sing, and
we are all reminded of who we've always
been.
November 27 - 8pm Beaucoup Blue with
Sean Schenker (of The
Trapps)
Philadelphia based duo
of David and Adrian Mowry, father and son, have
been performing their music strongly rooted in the
blues, up and down the eastern seaboard. Bridging
many gaps in American music, their soulful
traditional and contemporary style mesh into an
innovative and authentic sound. Although blues is
a staple in their repertoire, they also base their
love in music from Folk, Soul, R&B, Jazz,
Country, and Bluegrass. All these interests and
influences come out in their original songwriting
in a unique way. A handsome range of
instruments like six and twelve string guitars,
slide guitar, Dobro and the two soulful voices
blend together like only family members can,
affecting audiences wherever they
perform.
"This is
what acoustic blues should sound like but so
rarely do. Father and son, David and Adrian Mowry,
deliver a surprisingly soulful performance. Their
singing is tough and controlled and their guitar
work is crisp and mournful." Tune-UP
Magazine
December 18th - 8pm Hickory Project &
RUNA co-bill
What started as a
routine experiment has turned into a revolutionary
project, henceforth known as The Hickory
Project. The band features hard–driving
traditional and original acoustic music with the
expert licks of National Mandolin Champion
Anthony Hannigan Steve Belcher, David Cavage and
Dan Shipe, Coleman Smith, Mark Morris, Craig Vance
and Billy Gilmore
The Hickory Project is
globally acclaimed. They have captivated audiences
throughout Europe, both the main land and Celtic
Isles, Australia and all through the US. As
musical ambassadors Hickory Project is taking
their music worldwide.
Drawing on the
diverse musical backgrounds of its band members,
Runa brings a contemporary and refreshing
experience to traditional and more recently
composed Celtic material. Through their repertoire
of both highly energetic and graceful acoustic
melodies, along with their fusion of music from
Ireland, Scotland, Shetland Islands, Canada, and
the United States, this vocal and instrumental
ensemble give their traditional songs and tunes a
