February 26th -
8pm Lori McKenna with Mark
Erelli
BUY TICKETS
The
sweetest singer songwriter you are ever gonna meet! She is
critically acclaimed for her work as a song writer, and heavy
hitters like country star Faith Hill have recorded a pile of
her songs. Faith is great, but no one sings Lori's songs like
Lori.....come see why we love her! Keith Urban features one of
Lori's songs on his new album!
Gifted folk singer-songwriter Lori
McKenna brings her soothing voice to our stage as part of her
2011 tour. McKenna began her career in the Boston coffeehouse
scene, but quickly rose to the top as her 1998 self-released
debut; Paper Wings & Halo earned her performances at the
Newport Folk Festival and Lilith Fair. She has since released
four more albums to critical acclaim and made several
contributions including a cover of Peter Gabriel's "In Your
Eyes" and a song titled "I'm Workin’,” recorded by Tim McGraw
on his Let It Go album. Country star Faith Hill says Lori’s
writing is “masterful with a pureness that is completely
unaffected. The songs are such a great combination of depth
and realness… there's just this indescribable collision of
innocence and honesty in her writing.
Discovered at an impromptu 3 am hotel room jam
at a music conference when just 23 years old, Mark Erelli
finished up a graduate degree in evolutionary biology shortly
after his self-titled debut was released in 1999. He has
won several prestigious awards, from the Kerrville New Folk
contest in 1999 to the 2006 International Song Contest, where
a song he co-wrote with Catie Curtis bested 15,000 entries to
win the grand prize. For the past 10 years, he has
maintained a rigorous, international touring schedule, sharing
the stage with Dave Alvin, Gillian Welch, John Hiatt and
others, as well appearing at many major folk festivals,
including Newport, Philadelphia and Shrewsbury (UK). In
recent years, Erelli has gained notoriety as a
multi-instrumentalist sideman, accompanying artists such as
Lori McKenna and Josh Ritter everywhere from Nashville's Grand
Ole Opry to London's Royal Albert Hall. Erelli has seven
records to his name, including collections of western swing
(Hillbilly
Pilgrim), lullabies (Innocent When You
Dream) and songs of stirring social conscience
(Hope & Other
Casualties, WUMB Folk Radio's #1 record of 2006).
In 2009, he was one of eight artists invited to the UK
to take part in the Darwin Song Project, a
collaborative release featuring songs inspired by the life and
work of Charles Darwin. Mark Erelli is anticipating two
new releases for 2010, a collection of murder ballads recorded
with Jeffrey Foucault called Seven Curses, and
Little
Vigils, his ninth full-length studio
record. |

8pm Robin
Bullock and guitar
clinic

Robin is a prolific composer and multi-instrumentalist,
whose virtuosity on guitar, cittern and mandolin blends the
ancient melodies of the Celtic lands and their vigorous
Appalachian descendants into one powerful musical vision.
The 17th-century harp tunes of legendary Irish bard
Turlough O'Carolan, the spirited jigs and reels of rural
Ireland, the haunting ballads of the southern Appalachians and
evocative original compositions all find a musical common
ground in Robin's music, where lightning-fast fingerwork one
moment is perfectly balanced with tender, quiet intimacy the
next. A warm, friendly presence onstage, Robin
effortlessly creates a magical world for the audience with his
multi-instrumental wizardry, taking them on a journey to the
heart and soul of Celtic and American
traditions.
"Celtic guitar god." - Baltimore City

A very special evening with Lucy
Kaplansky
Fusing alt-country, roots rock and folk, Lucy
Kaplansky presents her songs with warmth, power and a
gorgeous, evocative voice. Blend all that musical talent with
funny stories, cogent remarks, and self-effacing wit and you
have a deeply satisfying night of entertainment.
Lucy has released five solo
albums on Red House, two of which have received the top award
from the Association For Independent Music in the pop
category. The
daughter of the famed Polish-Canadian mathematician Irving
Kaplansky (who once wrote a song based on the first 14 digits
of pi that his daughter has been known to perform)
and raised
in Chicago, Lucy began as a professional psychologist,
switching courses a decade later to become a full-time
singer/songwriter. She has worked
with Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin and toured
America and
Europe on her own, as well as
with Dar Williams and Richard Shindell as Cry, Cry, Cry and
most recently a joint project with John Gorka and Eliza
Gilkyson called Red Horse.
This sweet-voiced songwriter and song
interpreter comes to LLM for the first time. Lucy
Kaplansky's solo performances
will draw from her deep repertoire as well as from new
material.
"A truly gifted performer with a bag full
of enchanting songs." - The New
Yorker
"Bold,
vibrant...Kaplansky's vocals seem to glide into the heavens."
- Boston Globe

June 25th-
8pm Stacey Earle and Mark
Stuart with Peter
Scapegrace

Somewhere along the way country
music took a turn. What used to be pure and simple is now too
often watered-down, prefabricated pop music. Enter Stacey
Earle. This San Antonio native, sister of legendary rocker
Steve Earle, has made a return trip to yesteryear by offering
traditional, stripped-down country music. Her twangy,
unguarded, bittersweet singing, reminiscent of Nanci
Griffith's, is like a breath of fresh air. Joined by her
husband, former Steve Earle guitarist Mark Stewart, the duo
never fails to provide a captivating, uplifting, and
emotionally moving
concert.
Stacey and Mark have been making
music together since meeting in Nashville in 1991. Before
that, Stacey had toured as a guitarist with her brother Steve
Earle's band before returning home to focus on songwriting,
while Mark had earned a reputation as an ace sideman since his
teen years playing in local honky-tonks.
Together they've created a
body of twangy, bittersweet country music delivered with
beautiful harmonies and simple acoustic guitars. Stacey's
unaffected southern charm is irresistible and sweeps audiences
along on a ride that is part joy, part tears, part righteous
hope. Together they've won over audiences at major music
festivals and in clubs coast to coast.
